Cute, delicious dinner rolls that pair perfectly with soups, stews, chili, or any meal!
Serves: 12
  • 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons flax
  • 2 tablespoons dill
  • 2 envelopes Rapid Rise Yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
  1. In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt.
  2. Heat milk, water and butter until 120º to 130ºF temperature is reached.
  3. Add to flour wet mixture. Using stand mixer with bread paddle attachment, beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally.
  4. Add ¼ cup all-purpose flour, flax and dill. Beat for 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in enough remaining all-purpose flour to make soft dough.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough until smooth and elastic. This should be about 8 to 10 minutes. Cover dough and let rest 10 minutes.
  6. Divide dough into 12 equal pieces; shape into balls.
  7. Place in greased baking pan. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  8. With cooking shears, at one end of the dough ball, snip two "ears" for each ball of dough. With the end of a bamboo skewer, poke two holes for eyes in each ball of dough.
  9. Bake in preheated 375ºF oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until done. Remove from pan. Serve warm.
**Brush with melted butter before baking, if desired.
