December means getting festive! December is my favourite month of the year. Not because it’s my birthday month, but because it’s Christmastime!
Disclosure – This post was written in affiliation with Hallmark Canada as part of their #LoveHallmarkCA ambassador program. All thoughts and opinions expressed on this blog are my own.
For me, getting in the festive mood means decorating our home, putting up the Christmas tree, baking cookies to give to our mail carrier and other people who have done kind things for us throughout the year, and writing handwritten cards to friends and family.
To me, this time of the year is when we look back on our year – the highlights and noteworthy events. I also feel like we need to keep the art of letter writing alive. It seems to be a dying art, and I want to resurrect that love of sending and receiving handwritten letters. This is why writing and sending out Christmas cards is so important to me.
I have to admit that sometimes I can get a bit behind on things, and one may end up receiving a New Year’s card from me instead of a Christmas card!
I love wrapping presents and making them look pretty. Because I don’t like waste, I opt for decorative gift bags that are so pretty, the recipient will want to reuse them (perhaps for gifting to another person). Getting festive in our house also means FOOD! Whether it’s loved ones coming over for a meal or us going to friends and family’s for dinner or a visit during the holidays, there’s always a lot of food involved. Food connects people through shared experience and fellowship. We celebrate with food. Sure, it nourishes the body, but it also nourishes the soul when we share it with people we care about.
Hallmark has an assortment of Hanukkah items too. My friend makes the best latkes ever and this tea towel is perfect for her. I thought the bowls were great too! Perfect for putting applesauce in (for your latkes)!
Hallmark Canada has a wide array of items to help with holiday entertaining, gift giving, and letter/card writing! I love the collectable Christmas ornaments and the snowman collection. We like to add a new ornament to our tree each year.
I’ve shared some of my favourites, but I’d also like to give one Life on Manitoulin reader a woven felt tote.
These totes are great to transport gifts in or to store items in (like your warm blanket when you’re not snuggling on the couch with it)!
