I don’t know about you, but at the first hint of warmer weather, I’m always in the mood for a good spring cleaning!
Disclaimer – I am a #TeamTELUS advocate and this post was written in affiliation with TELUS. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed on this blog are my own.
I have the incredible urge to purge everything! I need to go through all our rooms, get rid of old clothing, shoes, toys, and anything that we do not need anymore.
Then there’s the outside of our home that needs some TLC when the snow has melted. There’s yard work and cleaning up to do. Spring cleaning does not only mean tidying up the interior of your home.
Are you in the mood for some spring cleaning? TELUS has 6 easy ways to refresh your home this spring.
Spring Cleaning Your Tech
One thing people often forget about is the importance of spring cleaning our tech lives too! On the TELUS website you can find 10 easy ways to spring clean your computer. This is something that is super handy!
I use my smartphone and my laptop daily, as my work is done mostly online. I rely on properly running tech and one of the ways to keep things in check and get the most out of my computer and smartphone is to “clean house”.
Purge, Purge, Purge
Something I’ve been doing over the past few years is freeing up space on my hard drive by purging files I no longer need. Another thing I do is uninstall old apps and games. There are a few things you can do to free up memory on your device, and uninstalling apps or games you do not currently use is a good start.
I’m notoriously bad for keeping hundreds (okay, close to two thousand) photos on my phone. I don’t know why I cannot bring myself to delete photos off my phone. Well, backing up photos from your device onto your computer is a great way to free up space on your device.
If you’ve got the Google Pixel, you get unlimited photo and video backup (until 2020). Any photo or video uploaded from your Pixel won’t use up any storage space.
Dispose of old devices the environmentally responsible way
One of the things I love about TELUS is that they are one of the leaders in environmental/green initiatives. That is really important to me.
If you have older devices that you are no longer using, don’t throw them away! Old devices should be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. I repeat, please do not throw them away. Bring your old devices to any TELUS location and they will have your device recycled.
If you have other electronics that you wish to dispose of (responsibly), you can visit Recycle My Electronics. We all share this planet, so we all need to act as stewards of the land. Disposing (of phones and other tech) responsibly is imperative for everyone as citizens of the world.
Give your devices a make-over
In spring we give our homes a fresh look with a thorough cleaning and some sprucing up. We may even give ourselves some TLC and get a new hairdo or a few new items to add to our wardrobe. Even our tech/devices could use a new make-over.
Time to change up passwords. In order to make yourself less vulnerable to fraud, make sure to change passwords every so often and protect valuable information.
Clean the outside too
You’re cleaned up your device by uninstalling apps and other items you no longer use. Now it’s time to focus on something many people often forget about — cleaning the surface of your device!
I was at a dinner party and the topic of using phones or ipads while on the toilet came up. I was really surprised at how many people use their devices while on the toilet! All I could think about was germs! It’s even worse thinking about how many people use their phones while on the toilet and don’t wash their hands after they use the toilet.
Did you know that your cell phone is 10 times dirtier than a toilet seat? You can use a microfibre cloth to remove some of the germs, but a combination of 60% water and 40% rubbing alcohol is recommended. Put some of the mixture onto a cloth and use it to clean your phone. Do not use liquid or spray directly on your phone, as you may damage it. Not only should you clean your phone, but wash your hands several times a day.
Now that spring is here, will you be spring cleaning your tech life?
