Another year has come and gone, and boy, was it an eventful one. No doubt you’ve been thinking of how you’ll be celebrating the countdown to New Year 2018.
New Year‘s celebrations for me used to consist of getting together with friends, ringing in the new year together, and partying until the wee hours of the morning. Now I’m a mom, and I’m lucky if I can even keep my eyes open until past midnight!
When I was a kid, my parents would have New Year’s parties with friends and family. The parties were always lavish affairs, complete with lots of food, music, beverages, and laughter. Somehow, us kids would be up way past midnight, like the adults!
My little one is pretty flexible and can party for hours too. The only thing is that if she doesn’t get her 10 to 12 hours of sleep at night, she is one cranky person the next morning. To be honest, I also don’t really want to be out too late or have to travel on the roads in the winter.
Here’s what works for us:
Food, Food, Food!
On New Year’s Eve, we often have lots and lots of hors d’oeuvres/appetizers, a great cheese platter and charcuterie board, and plenty of beverages for adults and kids. Having some bite sized food to nibble on throughout the evening is always a great idea.
Dance Party!
Our friends and I love a good dance party! As the night progresses, we bust out the tunes from our high school days, and the kids even rock out with us! So much fun! Some of our friends play musical instruments, and most of us can sing, so it’s always a good time! There’s definitely no shortage of entertainment.
Streaming with Netflix
When the kids get tired (and they will), some wind down time is a good idea. They can have some quiet time streaming something on Netflix. With all the family/kid-friendly titles on Netflix, you’re guaranteed to find something that pleases the group.
Did you know that Netflix has Netflix New Year’s Eve Countdowns? There are nine countdowns to choose from: Trollhunters, All Hail King Julien, Skylanders Academy, Puffin Rock, Word Party and Beat Bugs, and new appearances from Pororo, Larva, and True and the Rainbow Kingdom.
