Little One reminded me that Halloween is in but a few short days and she wanted to make a super easy kid-friendly Spooky Halloween Bark for her classmates. I thought I had at least another week! Is it just me or have the months just flown by at warp speed?
To be honest, the Spooky Halloween Bark treats were all Little One’s doing. She actually wouldn’t let me do anything. That kid is so darn independent, that I wish she would let me do more for her. She even makes wonton soup on her own now! The only thing she really shrugs off responsibilities for is cleaning her room. You really do not want to see what her room looks like some days!
Back to the Halloween bark.
What do Girl Guide Chocolate Mint cookies, candy corn, candy eyeballs, and chocolate melts have in common? Well, they are all part of Little One’s spooky creation.
Chocolate bark is one of Little One’s favourite treats to make, because it’s so easy, so versatile, as fancy as she wants to make it, and…she doesn’t need my help to make it.
Spooky Halloween Bark
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk chocolate (or semi-sweet or even dark if you wish) chocolate melts
- 1 cup orange candy melts
- 1 cup green candy melts
- 8 chocolatey mint Girl Guide cookies, chopped
- however many Wilton candy eyeballs you wish
- candy corn, however much you like (omit if you’re not a candy corn lover)
Instructions
- Place a silpat mat on a baking sheet (I find this easiest to remove the chocolate later and it doesn’t create extra waste).
- In a double boiler or in the microwave, melt the milk chocolate melts. She put the candy melts in a microwavable bowl and popped it into the microwave for 25 to 30 seconds.
- Stir until smooth and pour onto silpat mat.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the orange and the green candy melts.
- Swirl them together with a spoon and spread evenly with a spatula to 1/4 of an inch in thickness.
- Sprinkle your crushed Girl Guide cookies, candy eyeballs, and candy corn on top.
- Place baking sheet in fridge to chill for 30 to 40 minutes or until the chocolate hardens completely.
- Once completely hardened, remove from fridge, and place the chocolate on cutting board. With a sharp knife, cut the bark into pieces. We like cutting the bark into random, irregular pieces.
Enjoy!
The Spooky Halloween Bark can be served immediately or in an air-tight container in a cool place. Chocolate bark does not tend to last very long in this house. My husband has a sweet tooth and says desserts have “poor keeping quality in this house”, because he eats it all!
I have to say that chocolatey mint Girl Guide cookies are my Kryptonite! I don’t usually have a sweet tooth, but will happily accept a cookie as a treat if they’re chocolatey mint ones!
Can I tell you that as a kid, I HATED candy corn. Now, I don’t mind it and can have maybe one or two of them and I’m good!
I would have mixed until the chocolate was smoother, but Little One liked the bumpy texture and said it added to the creepy factor. It’s her creation. I’m just the by-stander in this kitchen concoction.
Little One put the Spooky Halloween Bark in a container and is ready to give it to her friends!
What a great idea to do with all that leftover Halloween candy! This looks delicious!
