What have you been Netflixing these days?
As someone who is a linguist, the language shift in the English language is of great interest to me. Language has evolved so much over time and words that were common even a century ago differ greatly from the language we know today. I was thinking of how my eight year old daughter would not recognize any of the words from the time of Beowulf.
Here we are in 2017 and words like Netflixing have become “a thing”. I use the term as well. Instead of asking my mom what she is watching on Netflix, I ask her what she’s Netflixing.
Chilly Winter Days are Perfect for Netflixing
When the temperature outside is really cold, I like to curl up under a warm, cozy blanket with a cup of tea, and watch something on Netflix when Little One is asleep. It’s my way of just unwinding after a busy day.

With working from home and lots of client work, coupled with a busy life on the farm, it’s really nice to have a bit of down time. Downtime for Hubby means he gets to watch an episode or two of his favourite shows on Netflix before he has to get crackin’ again. There’s always something that needs tending to on the farm.

Titles I’ve been Netflixing
Over the holidays, I was able to have a little downtime and found some Netflix titles that I could not stop watching.
After Jane vows to remain chaste until marriage, she winds up pregnant due to a medical slip up. I happened to stumble across this Netflix title while searching for something to watch. Initially, I thought the show would not appeal to me, because it just sounded really silly. I was strongly mistaken. Jane the Virgin quickly became one of my favourite shows.
If you’re of my vintage, you will have likely grown up watching Full House. You may have even had a crazy huge crush on Uncle Jesse too!
The gang is back, but this time the focus is on the next generation. The Tanner girls (and Kimmy Gibbler) are all grown up and raising their own kids. There’s no shortage of laughter and lessons. It’s good ‘ol family fun.
I learned early on watching this show that it is definitely not meant to watch with your eight year old child — no matter how mature a kid she is. As soon as bedtime hits, it’s my Mindy time.
Dr. Mindy Lahiri, despite being a successful doctor, is a serial dater and a hopeless romantic. She is a hopeless romantic and extremely unlucky in love. She is hilarious. Guaranteed laughter. I’d caution those who are sensitive when it comes to talking about sex, casual sex, and women’s sexuality to be aware that this show is no holds bar when it comes to all of those topics. Mindy is over the top and hilarious.
What are you Netflixing these days? I’ll be looking for new titles to watch once I’m done these!
