Looking for a modern way to send money? Western Union now has its WU® mobile app.
Just the other weekend, at a family event, I got into a conversation with family members and friends about sending money electronically. Situations where one would need to send money included wiring money to a son in university, to sending a sibling cash in a flash in times of emergency.

It was apparent that most of us in the conversation have found that sending money electronically is more the norm for us than going into a bank in person to make a transaction. Time and convenience were the deciding factors.
A recent survey commissioned by Western Union Canada showed that Canadians are more likely to do business with a company that understands their cultural and economic circumstances. In a country as diverse as Canada – where many new Canadians come from areas of the world with less developed financial systems or access to financial services – this means providing options: the option to send money face-to-face for those who prefer to transact in cash, and the option to send money online for those who prefer to operate from their computers or smartphones.
With the new app – available in Canada on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android – consumers in Canada will now be able to:
- Send money on-the-go, any time, to more than 200 countries and territories;
- Check current exchange rates and fees;
- View past and pending transactions;
- Get access to round-the-clock customer service;
- Track money transfers directly from their mobile device, and
- Discover the locations of Western Union’s Agents – 500,000 worldwide, with nearly 3,300 in Canada alone
You can download the WU App now and check out how easy to send money to your loved ones using fingerprint sign in, address book integration and you don’t even need to fill in your card details! You just scan it.
The fingerprint authentication (with touch ID) is such a great feature.
