With technology around us each and every day, we sometimes take for granted or perhaps we are even unaware just how much technology impacts our daily lives. At a recent doctor’s appointment, I realized just how important a role TELUS Health plays in the lives of Canadians. TELUS Health helps Canadians stay healthy.
TELUS has invested $1.6B since 2000 to help bring Canadians better care by connecting doctors to patients, to other doctors, to pharmacists and even to insurance providers.
“In order to improve patient outcomes, better manage chronic diseases, enable self-care and help move patients from acute care facilities into their homes, TELUS offers multiple patient and consumer health platforms such as Home Health Monitoring (HHM) and Personal Health Records (PHRs).”
TELUS Health and TELUS’ Home Health Monitoring (HHM) technology is of particular interest to me because we live in rural Northern Ontario. We have excellent physicians on Manitoulin Island, and we have two hospitals on the Island. This said, the closest “big” hospital is over two hours away (in Sudbury).
For my parents, who require specialized healthcare, traveling to Sudbury, London, or Toronto can be a challenge at times. For this reason, I really like that our physicians at the clinic use TELUS Health.
“The HHM platform uses remote patient monitoring technology enabling patients with severe chronic diseases or conditions to monitor their blood pressure and other health factors from the comfort of their homes and share this information electronically with their physicians and other healthcare providers. Tracking the patients’ results on a regular basis, the healthcare team can adjust treatments as required. In the longer term, HHM provides guidance to patients in order to help them learn to live with their life-long conditions.”
My husband, having been in a terrible accident, required visits to specialists in Sudbury. Thanks to electronic health records, his information could be easily passed on to the specialists in Sudbury from our family doctor on the Island, and all within minutes.
This really puts my mind at ease, knowing that the doctors can exchange information, view files, and communicate within minutes! This is particularly important to me as a mother. It certainly has helped with Little One a few times!
