Summer seems to be ending just as fast as it arrived. I’m a glass half full kind of girl, and I know that we still have a few weeks left of Summer vacation to enjoy. This said, it does feel like I just blinked and we’re already in August! August is close to September, and September is back to school! That means it’s time to think about back to school lunches again!
I know that many of my fellow mom friends think I am crazy because I love making back to school lunches. I have a little confession though. I basically send Little One to school with leftovers, and I get her to make her lunches! Yes! All those cute bento lunches on my Instagram…All Little One’s work.
I’m one of those moms who get the kid to make her own lunch. I don’t see it as being a mean mom, but more like giving responsibility.
It’s interesting because Little One won’t just throw a bunch of random things into a container. She loves “plating” her meals. I love it!
Back to School Lunches for the First Week Back at School
You won’t have to worry about what to make the kids for lunch. I’m making it easy for you and am giving you lunch ideas for the first week back at school.
DAY 1Mini quiche, assorted veggies, honey and cheese sandwich, fruit, yogurt, and water to drink.
DAY 2
Not sure about your kids, but my little one loves leftovers! I let her make her own lunches – this way, if she makes it, she is likely to eat it. Egg sandwich, veggies, fruit, yogurt, and water.
DAY 3My little one isn’t really a sandwich kind of girl. Pasta, pita chips, veggies, hummus, tzatziki, yogurt with fruit and granola, and water.
DAY 4Mini cucumber sandwiches remind my little one of tea parties! For this lunch it’s mini cucumber sandwiches, veggies with red pepper hummus and tzatziki sauce, apple crumble, yogurt with fruit, and some water to drink.
DAY 5
Got leftover meat from dinner? Little One really likes leftovers and adding leftover meat from the night before into a veggie-laden wrap is one of her favourites. She likes to put tzatziki, meat, cucumber, lettuce, onion, and red pepper into her wrap or pita. Into her lunch container, she has fruits, veggies, and an extra container with homemade applesauce (or tapioca pudding)! Water to drink.
Lunch containers
Speaking of bento box lunches in a snap, Snapware has some fun ideas for school lunches too!
Everyone always asks about which containers to use! Here are some I really like:
Snapware® Total Solution™ On the Go 5 Cup Plastic Square w/ Ice Pack – Food safety should be on every parent’s priority list. Keeping cold stuff cold is imperative. I love that the 5 cup plastic square Snapware comes with an ice pack. In fact, there are quite a few Snapware items that come with ice packs! Great for keeping fruit and veggies cool. Once frozen, the ice packs stay cool for approximately 4 hours at room temperature.
Snapware® Total Solution™ On the Go 12-pc Plastic Value Pack – Snapware products are airtight and have great locking tabs to ensure your food isn’t going to spill or drip out of the containers. I like that the containers are nestable and stackable. Perfect for storing and saving space!
Snapware® Total Solution™ On the Go 5 Cup Plastic Square w/ Divided Tray – Great for on the go! Pack foods separately in the divided tray! Want a sandwich at the bottom and fruits and veg on top? How about pasta in the bottom, greens in one side of the tray and a treat in the other side? The options are endless!
I’m a bit embarrassed to tell you that I am obsessed with anything kitchen and food-related. I’m super nerdy when it comes to food containers too. Here’s the nitty gritty when it comes to Snapware containers — I absolutely love that they are airtight with leak-proof lid with 4 locking tabs. They’re safe to use in microwave, refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher. They have space saving, nestable desigh and have write + erase lids for easy labeling of contents.
Even more cool info? Total Solution lids fit both glass and plastic vessels. BPA-free polypropylene container and lid, made in the USA, Limited Lifetime Warranty, AND there are ice packs! The ice packs, once frozen, will stay cool for approximately 4 hours at room temperature.
Whew! Okay, I’m almost done talking about food containers!
