Every act of giving inspires another.”
This, in essence, is what the giving effect is all about.
I must admit that I am a sappy person and my loved ones call me a bleeding heart. It’s no surprise that when I read or hear of amazing stories that restore my faith in mankind, I get just a little bit emotional.
The Giving Effect
My seven year-old daughter’s class recently went on a class trip. I was thinking that they’d be going to a park or some other scenic attraction, or even to a local business to see how things are operated. They went on a community walk to clean up the neighbourhood.
“Mommy! Mommy! We cleaned up garbage around the community today!” My daughter was so excited. She went on to talk about how her class was saving Mother Earth. Please don’t laugh, but I CRIED when she told me that!
Sure, it’s something that may seem small, but every small act of giving inspires another.
This made me think of TELUS. Barring the fact that I am a #TeamTELUS Advocate, I have to say that my loyalty to TELUS stemmed long before I was an official advocate! I’ve received stellar customer service from them for sixteen years and their network service is unparalleled (in the rural community on an island in Northern Ontario) where I live! One would think that those two things alone would be what has kept this sixteen-year relationship going strong, right? Well, there’s more. Much, much more.
I think one of the biggest draws for me is the dedication to community and the philanthropic mindset that TELUS embodies. Together with team members, retirees, friends, family and customers, Canadian joined in TELUS Days of Giving to give back to their local communities. Check out the TELUS Days of Giving 2015 post. The impact we can have when we all come together to do an act of good is amazing.
This video from TELUS made me a bit weepy.
I’m trying to think of some of the things we’ve done that made my heart swell. We’ve done little things like participate in beach clean ups or highway clean ups. We’ve been involved in planting communal gardens. There are quite a few things we’ve done that make me feel like we’re giving back, helping, and supporting our community.
I think the one little act of giving I love most was the time my friend and I organized a benefit concert with all proceeds given to Mount Sinai Hospital’s NICU. Without Mount Sinai, Little One probably wouldn’t be with us today. Her early days were filled with challenges. The concert was just a little way we could give back. It also makes me feel like we’re teaching Little One what the giving effect is all about. Hopefully, she takes these lessons with her throughout life and incorporates them into her own set of values.
Have you ever done something truly amazing (regardless of how big or small)? Something that inspires other acts of giving?
Check out how Canadians give and inspire the TELUS community to give. Doesn’t the Giving Effect just make you feel so warm and fuzzy inside?
Disclosure – I am a #TeamTELUS Advocate. Though I am affiliated with TELUS, all thoughts and opinions expressed on this blog are honest and my own.
That’s amazing that you organized a benefit concert. Mount Sinai is such a wonderful hospital, both in terms of the research they do and the care they provide to parents and parents-to-be.
Hey Christine! Great blog! This is the actor from the Telus Commercial. You know … the one who shaves her head! Thanks for writing about the giving effect and I’m really happy to hear you liked the commercial. I actually documented the day I shaved my head. And the reactions I got later on in some youtube videos. Every time I see that someone say they saw it and loved it, makes me smile. 😀
That video definitely made me weepy too. What a great movement by Telus.
This made my day. Thank you for sharing this.
