When we bring a dog into our home, they become members of the family. We take great care in what we feed them, and ensure that we give them love, attention, and exercise so that they can live a healthy, happy life. One thing some may not consider is the importance of oral health care for dogs. When I first brought Chance home as a puppy, I wondered how to keep our dog’s teeth healthy.
I used a silicone doggy toothbrush with special flavoured toothpaste (bacon, of course) for Chance. Chance enjoyed getting his teeth brushed.
Sadly, our beloved Chance passed away on May 12th. It’s been a very difficult two weeks for us.
He was thirteen years old. I did notice near the end, he was showing signs of dental disease. All the signs were there. He had bad breath, his teeth were beginning to turn brown, he was pawing at his mouth, and near the end, he was hesitant when it came to eating his dry kibble. Chance was completely deaf, suffering from respiratory issues, and having issues with his teeth. Poor boy.
Though we paid attention to his teeth, he still ended up having issues as he got older. This is why we are paying special attention to our pup, Cupcake’s teeth as well.
