Growing up, we were taught that family was always the most important thing in life. With two brothers and lots of cousins, we were a tightly-knit bunch. My grandmother always told us, “Love one another.” Every day that we got together was “family day”.

To this day, family is still the most important thing to me and we’re still a tightly-knit bunch!
I try to appreciate all the little things like funny stories or questions Little One asks. Like the time Little One asked me a vocabulary question at breakfast.
Little One: Mom, I have a word question. Since you used to teach English, I thought you could help me.
Me: Sure. What’s your question?
LO: Are the words ‘regular’ and ‘ordinary’ the same? Because, you said it is good to be unique and not ordinary, but you also said to eat my oats every day because it will make me regular. So, are they the same or not?
Haha! This kid makes me laugh!
It’s not always sunshine, roses, unicorns and rainbows. Parenting is not easy. Sometimes Little One can be very headstrong. She’s sensitive mixed with a healthy dose of independence thrown in there. This makes for challenging times as a parent.
Most days are filled with laughter and amazing moments though.
Since Family Day is coming up, here are a few fun things to do with the family.
- Go for a family hike – Winter hikes are always fun. If you’ve got snowshoes, why not go for a snowshoe adventure with the family? It’s a fun way to spend time outdoors with the family. Fresh air and quality time together!
- Sledding and tobogganing fun – If you live near a hill, bundle up the kids and pack up the sleds! Tobogganing is a fun activity for kids young and old.
- Skating and hot chocolate – After a few hours of fun and skating with the family, gathering together for some hot chocolate is a welcome treat!
- If it’s too cold to spend outdoors, you can enjoy some quality time indoors for family day! A game of cards or putting a puzzle together can be fun. Board games or watching a family movie on Netflix can also be a great way to spend time together on family day!
What I really enjoyed reading this post, everything you wrote about is so true about family and kids. I’ve always wanted to visit Manitoulin Island
Sue, please come visit Manitoulin sometime! Summer is an excellent time (so is Fall)!
