We love outdoor dining and spending lots of time out on the patio. This said, it’s been a humid Summer and in the beginning of Spring, we had lots of rain. You know what that means! Mosquitoes! Mosquitoes love breeding in those kinds of conditions.
I say this all the time. I love being outdoors…I just hate mosquitoes!
Maybe it’s just my bad memory, but I don’t recall mosquitoes being this bad! Last year seemed a lot better in terms of less mosquitoes…or perhaps I have selective memory. Whatever the case, mosquitoes really bug me. No pun intended!
There’s nothing more annoying that the buzzing sound of a mosquito. Wait. I know what’s more annoying! Being bitten by a mosquito! Though they bug me, they seem to go after my little one even more. The poor kid is a magnet for those thirsty blood suckers! She is always covered with mosquito bites. Try telling a six year old not to scratch her mosquito bites!
A few months ago, I was introduced to this amazing GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer. I was really curious as to what exactly it was, how it worked and whether it actually did its job at preventing mosquitoes. Did this product live up to its claims?
Let me first explain that the GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer is about helping the source of the problem. By stopping things at the source, you won’t need to be zapping and killing mosquitoes or being on constant mosquito look out! The GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer uses Zero-Hatch Technology to capture and destroy mosquito eggs. You know what that means, right? It lowers the mosquito population in your yard. It works best at reducing “second generation” mosquitoes so it’s best to use the Mosquito Preventer early in the season. I only recently received my GreekStrike Mosquito Preventer. I know it’s best to use it early in the season, but even though we got a later start on things, we have noticed a considerable difference already!
How does the GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer work?
I like the science and technology behind GreenStrike. I think preventing mosquitoes from hatching is such a smart idea! Get them at the source instead of fighting them all Summer long! The GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer uses a patented “Zero Hatch Technology”. This technology allows the unit to mimic the conditions in a marsh or pond, where mosquitoes tend to naturally breed. The female mosquito lays her eggs inside the Breeding Zone of the Mosquito Preventer. The Zero Hatch Technology then captures and disposes of the mosquito eggs.
There’s a lot of interesting science that goes on here! Inside the Mosquito Preventer are Mosquito Lures which attract the female mosquito. The female will also help out by releasing a pheromone attractant to tell other mosquitoes that its a safe spot to lay eggs.
The Mosquito Preventer runs on a 3 Day Cycle where the eggs and the pheromone attractant pass through a filter, captruing and killing the eggs. You can also adjust the cycle time on your machine. My husband keeps ours set to the three day cycle. See graphic below for details on how the Zero-Hatch Technology works.
The GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer comes with two kinds of mosquito lures. The lure you use depends on where you are in the season.
- CU Mosquito Lure is like a tea bag and is used mainly in the spring. It helps to attract the mosquitoes that have been dormant over the winter.
- AE Mosquito Lure is a liquid and is used mainly in the summer. It helps attract mosquitoes in hotter temperatures.
Because we started using our Mosquito Preventer in the middle of Summer, we used the AE Mosquito Lure. One of the things we noted was that the Mosquito Lure must be replaced every 30 days.
My husband, being intrigued by how everything works, was the the one to set up our GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer. He was pleasantly surprised at how easy and fast it was to set up the GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer. The great thing is that it came mostly assembled with only a few steps for us to take in order to make it work. The instructions and images included were very helpful.

My husband is not an instructions guy and will avoid reading instruction manuals if he can. I prefer to follow instructions, so to my husband’s dismay, I was reading the instructions outloud for him to follow! Non-chlorinated water is needed to use in the reservoir. The instructions mention using rain water if you own a rain barrel. If you don’t have a rain barrel, another suggestion is using distilled water.

Battery operated. Another thing I liked is that the unit came with batteries! I have to admit that I get a bit disappointed when you get excited about opening up and setting up a product and realize it is battery operated…and you see that “Batteries not included” note on the box! The Mosquito Preventer is battery operated so you don’t need to plug it in anywhere!
It’s suggested to place your Mosquito Preventer in all-day shade, protected from the wind and where there is lots of vegetation. We placed ours in a shaded area right by a tree in our front yard. From reading the instructions manual, my husband thought that was the most ideal location to place it. After reading the intructions manual, we are even thinking of getting another Mosquitor Preventer to place at the opposite end of the yard since our yard is very large. Of course, with 750 acres, we simply cannot rid our entire property of mosquitoes, but we can drastically reduce the mosquito population in our immediate vicinity! The area we spend the most time in is what we are focusing on.
The manual suggests that every seven days we should visually inspect your Mosquito Preventer to ensure it has enough water, perform a system check (it’s only the press of a button), and so on. On a monthly basis, the water needs to be topped up, and we need to add a new mosquito lure to the bottom reservoir and replace the filter trap.
The BIG Question: Does it really work?
My husband and I both agree that this is one of the neatest inventions we have seen. My husband was mentioning to me just the other day that he really thinks the GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer has been working for us! I have noticed it too. Though we haven’t been using the Mosquito Preventer for the entire Summer, we have noticed a drop in the amount of mosquitoes in our yard. The longer you use the Mosquito Preventer, the better it works. Just a side note, my husband was outside the other evening and noticed that the mosquitoes were going inside the unit — exactly how the manual explained they would! We definitely think this is working for us!
Another thing we noted was how quiet the unit is. In fact, it’s almost silent! Another pro is that the unit is low maintenance and that it doesn’t affect our hydro bill. Because it does not need to be plugged in, you can easily relocate your unit if you need to. I also like how the unit is compact and easy to set up.

That’s amazing i just want to get rid of Mosquito anyhow… will try this.
Wow this seems cool. I wanted to try this out for my restaurant. Once before I read an article that such machines doesn’t work for Indian Mosquitos. Is it?
This sounds very interesting!
Huh. This is the first I have heard of this brand. I am going to have to check them out. Our home is on the edge of the countryside, as a result we have a lot of pesky Mosquitoes join us when we just want to try and enjoy our time outdoors. Not fun.
I can attest, it works. At least as far as I have seen. I can see the mosquitoes going in and we noticed they don’t bother us as much.
Haha! You almost never comment on my blog! I guess you must love the GreenStrike Mosquito Preventer!!
I have seen this in my social feeds and have been curious to see if it really works! By the sounds of it, it does!
I absolutely think it works, Janie! Just by how little we are getting bothered by mosquitoes compared to when we weren’t using the unit earlier on in the season, I have noticed it a lot!!!
