Time keeps on slipping into the future.
Time just seems to slip into the future. I know it’s an odd thing to say, but I was thinking of how it seemed like only yesterday that Little One was still little. Now she’s six years old!
She’s brought us so much laughter (and tears). She’s given us so much joy (and tears). She’s funny, and quirky, and smart. She’s thoughtful, and giving, and kind. She’s also very headstrong, and feisty, and spirited. She’s taught us what life is really about.
She’s growing up so quickly.
Time keeps on slipping.
Though I know I need to live in the moment and enjoy each experience of being a parent, I can’t help but sometimes miss the days when Little One was still very little. Problems seemed smaller back then.
My mom always told me, “The smaller the kids, the smaller the problems.”
She always followed with “Just wait until your kids are teenagers!”
I’m laughing because I know she’s right.
In the meantime, here’s a funny Throwback Thursday post.
Back in 2011, when I was still teaching ESL, we had a South Korean student staying with us. The student was playing with Little One on a Sunday afternoon, and ended up taking a nap. We were having a BBQ with friends on our farm and I noticed that things were a bit too quiet. I went to the student’s room and was absolutely shocked to see Little One covered from head to toe in BLUE! My immediate reaction was to get Little One cleaned. I was worried that she had gotten into something poisonous. She got hold of the student’s suitcase and was playing with a tube of some product I didn’t recognize. The tube was empty, Little One was covered in blue, and I could not read the writing on the tube because it was in Korean! I panicked.
I tried to wake the student, but the student was a heavy sleeper and wouldn’t wake up. I ended up smelling Little One and realized she smelled rather minty! Still, I had no idea if she was covered in bum cream, bug medicine, or toothpaste!
The student eventually woke up and we discovered that Little One was indeed covered in toothpaste.
It’s moments like these that I like to look back on every once in a while and relive.
Little One is growing up so quickly. I’m glad we have the blog for posterity.
Do you have a favourite Throwback Thursday post you’d like to share?
Any Steve Miller Band fans out there? I leave you with this…
Fly like an eagle.
great song!
Time goes by quickly, enjoy your little one!
Cute picture and love the 1st one especially!
That picture is so cute!
I’m so glad I get to relive the good old days with my grandkids! My eldest loved my coloured nails and once opened up a new bottle of fire engine red polish and dumped it all out on my new couch! I was horrified at the time, but its a lovely memory now that brings laughter to us all!
your right it does my girl is 16 months and I feel like I just found I was pregnant, I
What a relief that it was toothpaste. So fun to look back and laugh at the things kids get into!
I’m so glad it was only toothpaste she was covered in! I love that you took a photo of her all covered in it. 🙂
Ha! I just love your little one. She’s so full of life! They do seem to grow so quickly don’t they? It seems like every time I turn around I wonder where all the time has gone.
Um your girl is priceless. Love her! This is so true to her personality. One day she will be running the world.
Aww! Thanks, Paula! Don’t know why I’m having a hard time with her growing up so fast! lol
I love the picture. She is so cute. My husband babysat our oldest granddaughter when she was about 3. She spent the afternoon, hidden behind a big chair in our living room. When he went to investigate. she was trying to shear a teddy bear with blunt scissors! He did not say anything but went back to his chair and his paper. She spent the rest of the afternoon trying to shear that teddy bear. I could not find any evidence that she had any success in her work!
Ha! Elva, that is such a cute story. Grandpas and their grandkids always make for cute stories!
LOVE this! Your daughter sounds like a little spitfire! Time certainly flies, I can’t believe I have an almost 8 year old, seems like just yesterday she was learning to walk and talk! ♥
Incredible how quickly the years fly by, Crystal! It does seem like just yesterday they were still learning to walk and talk…now they’re almost tweens! lol
Time truly does fly by once children are involved. I can’t believe my little guy is 3, it seems like yesterday we were just bringing him home.
So true, Randa! I know we should enjoy each and every stage of our kids’ development, but there are days I do wish I could freeze time for a bit and just take everything in for a bit longer!
Our daughters are so similar! When Ema was younger, every single time it was quiet…. like too quiet… we knew Emanuelle was into something. Nail polish, Vaseline, Moisturizer, SCISSORS, etc…..
With time slipping… sure makes us realize how important it is to live in the moment. 🙂
You are so right, Christine! It really does make you realize how important it is to live in the moment 🙂 Our daughters sound like twins! Quiet is not good news in this house! It means something’s brewing! 😉
