It was 1981 and Summer days were filled with wonder and adventure. Sunny days spent playing outdoors, hanging out in the pool or at the park, and even dancing up a storm were all part of my fondest memories. I remember when I was a little girl, one of my very first records (yes, I said RECORDS…as in vinyl, LPs!) was the Mini Pops! My brother, cousins and I would rock it out to the Mini Pops. Tunes like Video Killed the Radio Star, Super Trouper, Mamma Mia, and Waterloo were some of my favourite tracks.
Can you imagine my excitement when I discovered that the Mini Pops were launching in November?
As a kid, I loved the Mini Pops because they were kids like myself, performing family-friendly cover tunes from popular bands of the day. I was a big ABBA fan, so I loved that there were several ABBA songs on the Mini Pops record I had. Hmmm…I guess I’m “dating” myself and that everyone who reads this will know which “vintage” I belong to!
Now, the Mini Pops have tunes for my daughter’s generation. Little One gets a healthy dose of classical music at home. We’re big fans of Baroque music, chamber music and also opera. This said, we also love rockin’ it out and having impromptu dance parties in our living room! To be honest, Little One is the type of kid who cannot stand still when she hears music. She just has to sing and dance! This is why she loves the Mini Pops!
The Mini Pops consist of an all-Canadian group of kids with a passion for singing. This year’s Mini Pops includes an immensely talented group of children, ranging from 10 – 14 years old. Hailing from across Canada, Mylie, Jake, Raina, Victoria, Ethan and Avery, along with internet sensation Johnny Orlando will have fans jumping for joy.
It’s now December, so you can make sure to get hold of your copy of Mini Pop Kids 12!
In support of the album release, the Mini Pops have announced multiple LIVE Canadian shows in 2015! There’s no doubt that these fun, family-friendly tunes will have you dancing in your seat as the Mini Pops rock the house with versions of the latest hits by Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. The show also includes a blast from the past with a few classics from the Mini Pops of the ‘80s that parents are sure to enjoy. I admit, being a product of the ’80s, I love my ’80s music and my ’80s pop singers!
Introducing the Mini Pops!
Mylie Taylor
Age: 11
Grade: 6
Lives: Burlington
Now approaching her third Mini Pop Kids album, Mylie lives, sings, and breathes music. Whether she is competitively dancing or acting correspondant on YTV, Mylie brings a sense of sassiness and energy to the MPK group. As the daughter of Mike Taylor, band member in Canadian rock band Walk Off The Earth, music is obviously in the family genes!
Jake Donaldson
Age: 13
Grade: 8
Lives: Newcastle
With two Mini Pop Kids albums under his belt, Jake brings a sense of professionalism and energy to the MPK group. After spending a few years living in the tropics of St. Maarten, Jake made the back move to Canada to pursue his love of music. Whether strumming the guitar, learning new choreography or slaying the piano, Jake is rarely found without an instrument in his hand producing truly awesome sounds.
Raina Harten
Age: 10
Grade: 6
Lives: Oakville
Discovered at the Mini Pop Kids open casting call in Toronto earlier this year, competitive dancer and piano player Raina brings a new form of triple threat to the MPK group. With her first MPK album appearance in the works, Raina has been blowing away the group with her spirit and determination during the studio sessions.
Victoria Azevedo
Age: 12
Grade: 7
Lives: Toronto
Humble yet hilarious, Victoria realized she could sing at the mere age of six, and never stopped. With the stage presence of some of today’s top performers, Victoria is a force to be reckoned with. Inspiring kids is not only something Victoria does on a daily basis, but also something she is very passionate about. Also discovered at the open casting call in February 2014, this will be Victoria’s first appearance on the Mini Pop Kids 12 album.
Ethan Young
Age: 10
Grade: 5
Lives: Toronto
With his soft vocals and tone control, ten-year-old Ethan brings an original sound to his first Mini Pop Kids album.
Avery Raquel Kadish
Age: 13
Grade: 8
Lives: Brantford
With countless film, television projects and stage musicals across Canada already on this young lady’s resume, Avery Raquel Kadish brings her triple threat to the Mini Pop Kids group for the first time. A lover of Instagram and Niall Horan, this double-jointed MPK is a social butterfly in and out of the studio.

With over 21 million YouTube views and over 100,000 subscribers, YouTube sensation Johnny Orlando has a fan-base that is constantly growing. Little One loves the tunes from Mini Pops 11
AND Mini Pops 12!
My six year old daughter cannot get enough of the Mini Pops. We have a CD in the van and one at home. She plays the CDs over and over…and over! I posted on YouTube that the Mini Pops are the reason it takes me forever to get going. Instead of strapping herself into her car seat right away, Little One just has to do the whole song and dance thing!
Little One loves the Mini Pops so much that she said, “Mama, when I grow up, I want to be a NICU nurse and rock star. I want to be a NICU nurse AND Mini Pop!”
