Oh, boy. When Little One first started school, one of the things I worried about the most was…LICE! Growing up, I don’t recall too many kids having issues with lice. Perhaps they had it and it was no big deal. I’m not sure, but we never really heard much about it.
I know that lice is in kids can be quite common and that it isn’t serious health-wise (and more of a nuisance than anything), but just thinking of lice makes me itchy! Some of Little One’s peers have had lice issues before. We just make sure Little One remembers to never share hats, hair accessories, hair brushes or combs, and keep her head away from other people’s heads. That part makes me laugh because she’s five years old! Little kids play in very close proximity and don’t really have any concept of “personal space”! Head touching is bound to happen!
I heard about Lice Squad from one of the other mother’s at Little One’s school last year. I was really impressed with the info I learned about Lice Squad’s services and products. I was even more excited to learn that Lice Squad’s Premium Head Lice Removal Kit has been awarded the PTPA Seal of Approval!

With Summer and kids going off to Summer Camp, there are chances of kids getting lice. I remember when I was a Camp Counselor, almost the entire camp was invested! We had to do head checks and send so many of our campers’ clothing, bedding and personal belongings to get sterilized and deep cleaned! Again, I know it isn’t a life threatening thing, but it really is a pain.
My friend’s child recently had lice at the end of the school year and I gave her Lice Squad’s Premium Head Lice Removal Kit to use on her family. Her entire family ended up getting lice! Check out the review we wrote on the PTPA blog.

Wow, we have just been infected with these pesty little guys this week and i am literally at my ‘nits’ end (i’ve been on the Lice Squad site a little too much lately).
This would be the best prize ever since all 3 of my girls have been hit (including possibly me) and i feel absolutely defeated 🙁
First, let me start by saying I have 4 young girls with long hair, and mine is also long. 3 are elementary school aged, and we battle the icky bugs at least twice a school year. I purchased a battery powered comb that is supposed to zap them, however I found it didnt work that great. I straighten their hair, I found that really doesn’t help. They are resistant little jerks. I purchased tea tree oil, and found that worked slightly better when mixed with water and sprayed on their hair before school. I also found a lice repellant spray that I used after trying the tea tree oil for a while. I found constant combing with a METAL comb and rinsing and cleaning the comb constantly works best, combined with a repellant spray, washing laundry in very hot water with color safe bleach (or bleach for whites) and drying clothes on very dry heat. Bag up laundry that isnt needed for the next two weeks. Unfortunately, we also found getting rid of the excess of stuffed animals and doll hair really helped as well. Carpet clean all the capets and beds…. it’s a long exhausting process I know too well…**sigh**!
I wash their hair daily. And check regularly.
I check their hair regularly. Keep my daughter’s hair up and my son’s very short 🙂
We check her head regularly as does our schools
Christine,
Lice is something we deal with at school all the time. Thanks for the information about Lice Squad a PTPA Seal of Approval winner. That is a great resouce for all parents!

I tie my daughter’s hair back in a ponytail or braids for school (when her hair is not cut short, my other tactic), and I tell her every day at drop off – “Remember, no hugging, and no sharing coats, brushes, hats or hair accessories.”
