Every now and then, we meet people we connect with through shared passions, hobbies, and interests. Most of you already know how much I love cooking and entertaining. When I discovered there was another food blogger on Manitoulin Island, I was so excited! Oh, and she’s not just another food blogger! She’s also a fellow Food Bloggers of Canada blogger! I became a member in FBC’s first year and attended their first FBC conference at the Hockley Valley Resort in Orangeville, Ontario. I am beyond thrilled to find another Food Blogger of Canada on Manitoulin Island!
Kendra from Baking by Kendra wrote a lovely blog post and gave my rustic kitchen and spice wall a big shout out! Thanks so much, Kendra! Her dish was also my favourite potluck contribution! In fact, I made her Spicy Caldereta Cottage Pie for supper tonight!
Something that connects me to others is the love of good food. I have been working with McCormick, getting the word out on their Filipino mixes and spices. Have you entered the McCormick Online Cook-Off yet? Your original recipe can win $2000! I entered my Chicken Adobo Pizza recipe!
The contest is very exciting and I am thrilled that Filipino food is being showcased. Being part Filipina myself, Filipino food is part of my roots. I couldn’t be more excited about sharing food from my mother’s country!
I recently hosted a potluck with a twist! All the ladies who attended had to make an original dish using the McCormick Filipino mixes and spices. Wow! The creations presented were incredible. Did I mention that I love me some good food?!
When you get a bunch of ladies together in one place, include lots of good food and beverages and a bunch of laughs, you get one really great party! We had all kinds of creative recipes using the McCormick spices and mixes! Some of the entries were:
- Chicken Adobo Souvlaki
- Chicken Adobo Pizza
- Black Bean Chocolate Asado Brownies
- Spicy Caldereta Cottage Pie
- Mango Chicken Adobo
- BBQ Chicken Adobo Drumsticks
- Spicy Caldereta Chicken and Sweet Potato
- Adobo Fish Stew (Local fish caught from Manitoulin fresh water lakes)
- Spicy Caldereta Beef Stew
- Manitoulin Style Pancit
- Spicy Caldereta Pork
My mom made cassava cake to give the ladies a taste of what an authentic Filipino dessert is like. It was a hit and now everyone wants my mom’s cassava cake recipe. Odds are slim, as she won’t even give me her recipe!
After each home cook presented her creation, the fun part came! Taste testing!! Everything was so good!
I passed out ballots after the meal and each person voted on their favourite dish. It was a tie between my friend’s Chicken Adobo Pizza and Kendra’s Spicy Caldereta Cottage Pie. After a re-vote, the Chicken Adobo Pizza was declared the winner. So close! Couldn’t believe we had to re-vote! What did the winner receive? A $100 Gift Card to Sobey’s-Foodland-IGA-Freshco!
I’m hoping the ladies share their amazing recipes on the McCormick Online Cook-Off page on Facebook. It would be great if one of them would win the GRAND PRIZE! Plus, I’d also like them to upload their recipes so we can all have access to them! *hint, hint*
Thanks to McCormick for facilitating this great get-together.
Good food, good friends, good times.
