Growing up, Filipino food has been a big part of my life. My mom’s family is from the Philippines and food has always played a big role in reminding us of our roots, keeping traditions alive, and most of all, giving us the opportunity to share a meal together as a family. Being in a busy kitchen buzzing with my mom and her sisters sitting around the table, filling and rolling lumpia or making sio pao will always be part of my childhood memories.
It makes me happy to see that Filipino food has become more and more popular. Home cooks and chefs in restaurants are getting creative in the kitchen and are coming up with interesting ways to showcase Filipino food! I once had Calderetta Poutine at a restaurant and just the other day I made Chicken Adobo Pizza.

NicolthePickle: Yes! Definitely try making Lumpia! It’s not as difficult as people think! It’s actually quite easy. The only thing is the prep work is a lot of chopping, but that’s all 🙂 OR you can order it in a Filipino restaurant! LOL!
I live in Rural NB so Filipino restaurants are few and far between, but I don’t mind chopping things so that’s probably how we’ll try them. My husband will be so impressed.
Our family favorites since my Wife’s family are Filipino’s are Adobo, Pinakbet, and a multitude of other dishes that are decent like Longinisa and Tocino. My Brother in Law who is here under the Caregiver program is the cook of the family but he was a former cook on a Cargo ship.
