We recently celebrated my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. For this huge milestone, my brothers and I (along with our respective partners) organized an intimate celebration at a popular Chinese restaurant in downtown Toronto. We had a 10 course Chinese meal and among all those dishes, my personal favourite was the Peking Duck.
My husband, 5 year old daughter and I enjoyed this particular dish so much, that i wanted to recreate the dish at home. Being on Manitoulin Island, I didn’t know if I could find the Chinese wraps anywhere, so immediately thought of Dempster’s Tortillas. I know they’re not quite the same, but they’re pretty close!
Normally, I would roast, bake, or BBQ a whole 3-4 lb chicken and then whatever doesn’t get used, I’d make soup or chicken pot pie or quesedillas with. This time, I was in a rush. It was after school, Little One had Sparks at 6pm until 7pm, and it was a zoo on the farm. Oh, plus I had to work all day! Rotisserie chicken it was!
My Hoisin Chicken Restaurant Recipe Make-Over
- 10 Dempster’s Tortillas Original 7 in.
- 2 lb Roasted Chicken (use leftovers for another recipe the next day)
- Green onion
- Red Pepper (or hot pepper if you like spicy)
- Hoisin Sauce
For the chicken, you can either use this FoodNetwork Hoisin Chicken recipe OR if you’re in a rush, a rotisserie chicken from your local supermarket will do.
Slice chicken in 2/3 in thickness, making sure to get some of that flavourful skin showing.
Wash, clean, and prepare green onion, cutting about 2-3 in above the white part.
Cut hot pepper into small rings to place around the green onion as garnish.
Lay Dempter’s tortillas on flat working surface, arrange 1-2 slices of roasted chicken and 1 green onion with pepper garnish. Drizzle Hoisin Sauce over the chicken, green onion and pepper. Fold and enjoy!
*For this recipe, I used rotisserie chicken, so prep and total time are at minimum.

Though we love our Mexican nights, this recipe is proof that Dempster’s Tortillas can go way beyond your typical Mexican dinner! Tonight, Hoisin Chicken! Tomorrow, Chicken Fajitas or Quesadillas!
What kind of dishes do you make with tortillas? Do you ever make any non-Mexican dishes with tortillas?
