I will be the first to admit that I am a bit over the top when it comes to celebrating special moments. Birthdays are a huge deal in my family — especially milestone birthdays like Baby’s first birthday, Sweet 16, 21st, 30th…you get where I’m coming from, right?
Hubby’s family doesn’t celebrate birthdays quite the way my side of the family does. My mom’s culture celebrates and celebrates BIG! There’s always a reason to have a big party! Hubby was great to “entertain me” as I prepared for Little One’s grand celebration on her first birthday.
Those of you who have been reading the blog for a while know that Little One was born 12 weeks early. Because of her scary start and rough first year of life, each year is cause for celebration. That’s part of the reason it’s “go big or go home” for me.
Our friends at PhotoCaptiva did a Cake Smash photo shoot for Little One’s first birthday. What a fun way to commemorate her special day!
It’s not a party without lots of family, friends, food…and CAKE!
The Hello Kitty love began on her first birthday.
I can’t believe how little hair she had! She was “bald” for what seemed like almost two years!
Friends and family came to celebrate with us. Little One’s cousins from Kingston even made it for her special day.
Little One’s first year was filled with so much excitement and so many firsts! I have countless videos and photos of her laughing for the first time, rolling over for the first time, crawling for the first time (even though she used to crawl backwards instead of forward!). I’m pretty sure I drove my friends and family nuts with my incessant Facebook pics and updates. I couldn’t help it! We were excited that a) Little One was meeting her developmental milestones even though she was preemie and b) she survived her first year despite all the complications of being born at 28 weeks gestation! Most parents are proud of the things their babies accomplish (talking, standing, walking, etc). We were so proud that she survived just another day! Sounds kind of odd, but fellow preemie parents can relate. 🙂
Celebrating a First Birthday
It’s apparent that celebrating a first birthday is incredibly important to me. When I heard that Carter’s & OshKosh are celebrating their one-year anniversary at Sears, I was really excited! Carter’s & OshKosh have always been favourites of mine since having Little One. I really liked the fit and quality of their clothing on Little One.
